William Shakespeare’s tragedy Othello is a polysemic and subjective play of the Elizabethan era that focuses on concerns of racial, gender stereotypes and the power of green-eyed monster whilst existence open to limitless interpretations. Although the play Othello encompasses the finis and values of its zeitgeist, its plot follows that of the Aristolean Model of Tragedy, focusing on the cosmopolitan concern of the power of the flaw of jealousy and its ability to verify even the most statelyst of people. This is seen in the initial characterization of Othello as both dignifi ed and assertive, with Venetians imparting their positive view of him in the moor is far more fair than black and “my dire Moor is true of mind”. However, it is a condition in all Shakespearean tragedies for the protagonist no matter their build to possess a hamartia that will lead to a fatal error in judgment.

Othello’s hamartia is his jealousy, internal out of his insecurities in relation to Desdemona and accentuated by the machinations of Iago. His insecurities existenceifest themselves from his late subaqueous doubts that Desdemona could love him as a black man and that she fell, “in love wi th what she feared to look on”.
